WORKPLACE INDUCTION
Introduction
- This JC Steele Australia workplace induction is designed to ensure that all employees, labour hire workers and contractors (“workers”) are fully informed about the working conditions, and are aware of their responsibilities, within our workplace.
- All workers must complete both this online workplace induction as well as the safety induction prior to any work being conducted on site.
- Visitors to our site will be supervised at all times and given a specific induction as required.
Health and Hygiene
The recent coronavirus pandemic has thought us all the importance of health and hygiene in the workplace. While COVID-19 is still in our communities, the risk of transmission of all viruses (COVID-19, influenza, gastroenteritis, etc.) presents an OH&S risk for our workplace, for you and your family.
While you are unwell with any illness, employees will be able to access their Personal Leave entitlements. Access to Annual Leave entitlements may be considered if you have insufficient Personal Leave entitlements. You are able to return to work as long as you are not contagious.
At all times, the following Infection Control Safety Practices should be practiced:
Regularly wash and/or sanitise your hands.
Regularly clean all surfaces and equipment.
Worker Responsibilities
- All workers must treat each other professionally at all times.
- All workers must take reasonable care of their health and safety and ensure that their actions (or in-actions) do not put themselves or others at risk.
- Workers must comply with all JC Steele Australia safety guidelines, SWMS, policies and procedures of the business.
- Workers must notify their manager of any safety risks they discover.
- Discrimination will not be tolerated in the JC Steele Australia workplace.
- Workplace bullying, violence or practical jokes is not acceptable. JC Steele Australia has a zero tolerance to such behaviour and employees engaging in these activities will be subject to disciplinary action.
- Sexual harassment and Sex Discrimination will not be tolerated in the JC Steele Australia workplace.
Licensing
- All persons must have appropriate and current license if driving to/from a client’s office.
COVID Safety
In the following scenarios staff cannot attend work if they have:
- If they have returned from a COVID-19 hot spot
- Directed by a Government Body (i.e. NSW Health) to self-isolate.
- Been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus in the last 14 days (they must isolate themselves for 14 days after the date of the last contact with the confirmed case)
- Employees who have symptoms of acute respiratory illness are recommended to stay home and not come to work until they are free of fever (37.8° C] or greater using an oral thermometer), signs of a fever, and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines (e.g. cough suppressants). Employees should notify their supervisor and stay home if they are sick.
Employees who are in isolation due to one of the above situations should alert their Manager. Depending on the type of work, and providing the employee is well, flexible work options from home maybe offered but this will be determined on a case by case basis. If working from home is not viable the employee will be able to access Personal Carer’s Leave or annual leave entitlements.
COVID Safety Practices should occur:
- Staff should regularly clean their equipment
- Do not shake hands with staff, clients & visitors
- Wear a mask if not able to socially distance from others
- Keep 1.5 metres distance from others
Workplace Bullying
- JC Steele Australia has a zero tolerance to workplace bullying. Under no circumstances will any form of bullying or harassment be tolerated.
- Workplace bullying or workplace harassment is any ongoing harmful or threatening behaviour by a person or group of people in your workplace that creates a risk to your health and safety.
- It can happen in any kind of workplace, and the person or group doesn’t need to be a manager or someone in a position of power over you.
- Bullying in the workplace may lead to serious personal impact on individuals and is never acceptable.
- Any forms of bullying will be investigated, and staff may face disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment if they are found to be engaging in bullying of others.
- All staff have an obligation to report bullying if they witness it occurring in the workplace.
Electrical Safety
- All Electrical equipment must be inspected before use
- Only licensed electricians may work on energized electrical equipment and under strictly enforced SWMS where utilizing suitable PPE and equipment.
- Staff are not permitted to use floor heaters under the desks without prior authorisation.
Worker Responsibilities

Sexual Harassment and Sex Discrimination
- JC Steele Australia has a zero tolerance to any form of harassment and/or discrimination and makes every effort to provide a work environment that is free from all forms of sexual harassment and sex discrimination.
- It is against the policies of JC Steele Australia for any employee to make any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature towards any person in the company, be they employees, contractors or visitors.
- Sexual harassment is generally characterised by behaviour that is unwanted, sexual in nature and reasonably anticipated to offend, humiliate, demean or intimidate. It can be overt, covert or subtle. It can be repeated or a one-off incident. Sexual harassment can cause harm to the person it is directed at, as well as anyone who witnesses the behaviour.
- It is also against the policies of JC Steele Australia for any employee to discriminate against a person because of their sex, gender identity, intersex status, sexual orientation, marital or relationship status, family responsibilities, because they are pregnant or might become pregnant or because they are breastfeeding.
- Sex discrimination in employment occurs when someone is treated less favourably than a person of another sex would be treated in the same or similar circumstances. It can occur when an employee holds assumptions about what sort of work a person is capable or not capable of performing based on their sex or sexual orientation.
- Sexual harassment and sex discrimination in connection to employment may be considered serious misconduct and may lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- JC Steele Australia recognises its positive duty to prevent sexual harassment or sex discrimination within its business and will take all reasonable and proportionate measures to eliminate any such behaviour from is workplace.
Evacuation Procedure
- Be aware of emergency situation occurring.
- Check for signs of smoke/fire in your area and prepare for an evacuation.
- Wait for further instructions from your Manager.
- Ensure all workers around you are aware of the evacuation and evacuate the building via the nearest safe exit route.
- Obey any directions/instructions given to you by a Manager.
- Assist mobility-impaired workers to an appropriate emergency exit.
- Exit the building in a safe, calm and orderly manner. Move at a quick walk, do not run.
- Maintain one clear step between the person in front of you to prevent stumbling.
- When leaving our of the building proceed immediately to the designated assembly point, located across the road on XXXXX
- Once at the assembly point, take notice of your fellow workers and point out anyone who you believe to be missing to a Manager.
Drugs & Alcohol
- JC Steele Australia has a ZERO tolerance for drug and alcohol use on site.
- You must not be under the influence of any drug or alcohol while at the workplace.
- JC Steele Australia reserves the right to conduct on site random drug and alcohol testing.
- Workers found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will face disciplinary action, up to and including termination of their employment.
- Workers must report any suspicious activity to their manager.
- You may not bring any drugs or alcohol into any JC Steele Australia workplace, without express permission.
Housekeeping
- All staff are to ensure that their desks are clean and tidy at all times.
- All staff are expected to wash up and clean up after themselves in the lunch room.
- Please throw food scraps in the bins provided in the lunch room.
- If you notice any cords, trip hazards or broken furniture please immediately notify the Administration Manager.
Desk Safety
- When seated, your feet should be able to rest flat on the floor. If necessary, a footrest should be used.
- Your keyboard should allow the hand, wrist and forearm to be in a neutral position, ie. close to the horizontal.
- As with the keyboard, your mouse should be placed so the hand, wrist and forearm are in a neutral position ie. close to the horizontal.
- Monitors should be at an arm’s length in distance away from you and placed so the centre of the screen is about shoulder height.
- Document holders should be approximately the same height and distance from your eyes as the screen, and as close to the monitor as possible to prevent neck twisting.
- Glare can be reduced by tilting the screen down slightly.
- Staff are not permitted to use floor heaters under the desks without prior authorisation.
Office Ergonomics

- You will now be given a tour of the office.
- You will also be shown the location of the first aid kits, fire extinguishers and the emergency evacuation point.
